Your initial appointment is slightly longer than regular sessions, lasting approximately 90 minutes. This gives us proper time to review your consultation form together and discuss your health history, any current concerns and what you're hoping to achieve from reflexology. I'll explain how reflexology works and what you can expect during treatment. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Once we've covered everything, we'll move into your first reflexology session.
Getting started is straightforward:
● Download my consultation form
● Fill it in when you have a quiet moment
● Email the completed form to me
● I'll be in touch to arrange your first session at a time that suits you
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works by applying pressure to specific points on your feet. These points, called reflex points, correspond to different organs, glands and systems throughout your body. By working these areas, reflexology stimulates your body's natural healing processes and encourages deep relaxation. Unlike a massage, the focus is on specific points rather than muscles and the goal is to support your body's ability to restore balance and wellbeing.
During each session, I use a specialist reflexology wax that allows smooth, comfortable application of pressure to your feet. Everyone experiences reflexology differently, so I tailor each treatment to you. Some clients prefer firmer pressure, others find lighter touch more comfortable. Some reflex points might feel more sensitive on certain days. I work with your body's feedback throughout the session, adjusting the pressure and pace to what feels right for you. You're always in control. If something doesn't feel comfortable, just let me know and I'll adapt immediately.
If travelling to my Stonehaven clinic isn't convenient, I offer a mobile reflexology service within 30 miles of the area. I bring everything needed for your treatment, including a specialist reflexology chair, covers and blankets. You'll just need to provide a quiet space where we won't be disturbed and some towels. The session length and treatment quality are exactly the same as clinic appointments. If you live outside the 30-mile radius and you're interested in mobile reflexology, please get in touch. There may be an additional travel charge, but we can discuss this.
No, reflexology shouldn't hurt. You might feel some tenderness in certain reflex points, which can indicate congestion or imbalance in the corresponding area of your body. However, this should feel like a "good" sensation rather than pain. I'll always adjust the pressure to your comfort level, and you can ask me to work more gently at any point.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, though you'll need to remove your shoes and socks. If you're having a mobile session, loose trousers or a skirt that can be rolled up slightly works well.
Most people feel deeply relaxed after reflexology. Some clients experience increased energy in the hours following treatment, while others feel ready for a good rest. You might notice increased urination as your body processes and eliminates toxins. Occasionally, you might experience mild symptoms like a headache or slight fatigue for a day or two. This is a normal healing response and should pass quickly.
This depends entirely on your individual needs and what you're hoping to achieve. For specific concerns like menopause symptoms or high stress levels, I usually recommend weekly sessions initially, then spacing them out as you start feeling better. For general wellbeing and maintenance, fortnightly or monthly sessions work well for many clients
Reflexology can be beneficial during pregnancy, but it's important to let me know if you're pregnant when you complete your consultation form. There are certain precautions to observe, particularly in the first trimester.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works alongside conventional medicine, not instead of it. It won't interfere with medications, but you should always continue taking any prescribed medication and consult your GP about any health concerns. Never stop or change medication without medical advice.
Try to avoid eating a heavy meal just before your session. Drink plenty of water before and after treatment to help your body flush out toxins. If you're coming to the clinic, arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in without feeling rushed. For mobile sessions, ensure you have a quiet space ready where we won't be interrupted.
I understand that life happens and plans change. However, I do require 48 hours' notice for cancellations. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full.
If you're ready to experience what reflexology can do for you, download the consultation form and email it back to me. We'll then arrange your first appointment at a time that works for you. If you'd like to discuss anything before booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
